About 'online tuition fees'|University of the People, The World’s First Tuition Free Online University








In               the               past               ten               years               I               have               attended               four               different               colleges,               due               to               moving               around,               graduating               with               my               Associates               Degree,               and               starting               at               a               four               year               state               school.

Trying               to               understand               the               cost               of               education               per               semester               can               be               confusing               if               you               think               you               are               only               paying               the               per               credit               hour               costs.

There               are               many               "hidden"               fees               associated               with               the               college               or               university               where               you               choose               to               attend.

It               is               important               to               have               an               understanding               of               the               typical               fees,               so               you're               not               surprised               when               you               receive               your               (or               child's)               first               bill.

There               are               two               areas               where               costs               may               differ               from               each               other.

That               is               the               school's               (meaning               the               learning               program               Arts,               Sciences,               Mathematics,               etc.)               individual               costs,               and               the               learning               fees               also               associated               with               courses               which               require               lab               work.

Those               classes               or               schools               will               charge               different               fees               per               semester               and               will               vary               tremendously               through               your               educational               career.
               The               typical               breakdown               for               general               university               fees,               for               in-residence               students,               (out               of               residence               students,               or               out               of               state               students,               have               considerably               higher               fees)               is               pretty               much               the               same               anywhere               you               go.

Of               course,               state               school               fees,               will               be               higher               than               those               of               a               community               college.

The               University               of               Arkansas,               where               I               attended               school               most               recently,               fees               for               twenty-four               credit               hours               are               as               follows:               (figures               taken               from               the               University               of               Arkansas               website.)               The               following               figures               are               for               in-residence               students               only.

Textbooks               are               extremely               expensive.

There               are               ways               to               cut               the               costs               of               your               books               by               purchasing               at               used               bookstores               or               online,               but               the               expense               will               still               be               high.

As               a               student               at               the               University               of               Arkansas               I               generally               spent               around               $500.00               for               text               books               a               semester               and               that               was               for               only               twelve               credit               hours.

You               will               find               that               foreign               language               books               may               be               your               biggest               expense,               because               often               times               they               include               CDs,               as               well               as               membership               into               online               learning               labs.
               Of               course               if               you               or               your               child               are               planning               to               stay               in               a               dorm               room,               there               are               more               fees               to               be               aware               of               than               just               the               general               fees.

A               dorm               room               can               be               a               considerable               cost               on               top               of               what               you're               paying               already.

The               typical               cost               for               a               dorm               at               the               University               of               Arkansas               is               around               $7,500               for               two               semesters               (uark.edu).

This               does               not               include               insurance               fees               which               are               mandatory               for               any               student               who               can               not               prove               current               medical               coverage.

Insurance               fees               run               around               $1,030               a               semester.

Meal               plans               will               also               be               needed               if               the               student               is               staying               in               the               dorm               which               according               to               College               Confidential               can               range               from               $1,000               to               nearly               $2,000               or               more               depending               on               the               school.
               Dorm               fees               can               be               cheaper               than               living               in               a               Greek               house,               but               depending               on               the               Greek               organization               may               run               about               the               same.

Typical               fees,               aside               from               lodging,               for               either               of               the               Greek               house               type               residences               are               more               costly               than               those               of               the               dorm               residence.

Other               fees               which               may               apply               include               membership               fees               which               according               to               the               University               of               Alabama               range               from               $2,500               to               $1,700               a               semester,               plus               the               initial               new               membership               fee               which               can               cost               about               $250.
               Attending               college               is               one               of               the               best               decisions               you               or               your               child               can               make.

It               is               the               place               where               your               son               or               daughter               will               learn               how               to               support               themselves               and               their               future               families.

So,               it               is               important               to               know               the               fees               that               you               will               be               paying,               so               you               can               make               the               best               choices               for               their               educational               goals.
