About 'alabama state colleges and universities'|Spotlight Shines On An Alabama University and Its Shenanigans








FIRST               PERSON               |               On               March               1,               hundreds               of               college               students               and               faculty               marched               in               a               mile               parade               on               Alabama's               capital               and               crowded               out               in               front               of               the               Statehouse               for               the               yearly               Higher               Education               Day.

They               were               asking               their               legislators               for               more               state               funding               for               college               universities               and               to               help               ease               the               burden               of               the               cost               of               higher               education.

Many               notable               schools               such               as               Troy               University,               Auburn               University,               University               of               Alabama,               among               others               were               present,               displaying               their               own               school               pride               and               carrying               signs               asking               to               stop               the               rising               tuition,               to               give               them               a               chance               at               a               higher               education,               and               to               send               more               money               to               their               schools.

Many               faculty               and               staff               asked               for               more               help               in               creating               more               jobs               at               universities.
               Governor               Bentley               promised               in               his               speeches               that               he               would               make               progress               in               helping               increase               the               public               funding               for               colleges               and               create               more               university               jobs.

Under               his               term,               he               acknowledged               that               he               had               made               significant               increases               in               the               funding               of               schools.

Under               the               excitement               of               the               crowd,               he               called               for               a               plan               that               would               dedicate               2/3               of               the               funding               for               Pre-K               through               12th               grade               and               the               last               1/3               from               undergraduate               to               Ph.D.
               Governor               Bentley               stated               "I               want               education               funding               for               Pre-K               all               the               way               through               Ph.D."
               For               the               first               time               in               the               14               years               of               Alabama's               higher               education               day,               the               pleas               of               the               students               managed               to               inspire               the               committee               over               public               education               to               promise               to               help               increase               education               funds.

Many               other               legislators               further               urged               student's               to               start               contacting               local               legislators               to               help               increase               the               awareness               of               tuition.
               Any               increase               in               the               budget               would               help               universities               build               on               new               buildings               and               maintain               their               current               grounds,               control               the               rising               spike               of               tuition,               and               make               it               more               affordable               for               more               students               to               attend               college.

After               the               rally,               students               got               a               change               to               sit               down,               eat,               and               talk               to               the               legislators.

Today               was               a               day               of               difference               in               Montgomery.
